PPH and Pregnancy
While Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) is commonly known to affect many individuals of varying ages, it unfortunately affects women between 21 and 40 more than any other age group. This age group happens to be the years in which women most commonly give birth. Unfortunately, PPH greatly increases the chances of maternal mortality when pregnant.
Women who have PPH may have it before they are even pregnant or may develop it during pregnancy. If an individual has PPH, she will normally start to experience increased symptoms during the second trimester. The mother’s life can be saved though if a combination of medical treatments are started during the pregnancy, increased during labor, and continued after the baby is born. These are not 100% effective but do increase the chances of the mother making it. During labor, the drugs needed to enable the mother to live are given via an epidural. Women who have PPH most frequently die 2 to 9 days after giving birth. Their deaths are most frequently caused by right heart failure.
PPH is commonly attributed to taking Fen-Phen or Redux or any of a variety of similar drugs that were frequently prescribed until 1997. In addition, the disease is also linked to pregnancy, Cocaine, and HIV. Taking the drugs and being pregnant is a very frequent contributor to the disease.
If you have taken the diet drug Fen-Phen, were diagnosed with PPH, and are pregnant, talking with an experienced PPH Lawsuit Attorney may be in your best interest. Contact the PPH Lawsuit Attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 1-800-220-9341 to discuss your case and to schedule an initial consultation.
