The Effects of Adapex

Adapex, known as phentermine, is a weight-loss drug designed to suppress the appetite. Phentermine , which puts the phen in fen-phen, accounts for roughly 50% of all weight-loss drug prescriptions. It is much cheaper than the other FDA-approved weight-loss drugs, Meridia and Xenical.

Phentermine was approved in 1959 in resin form. Phentermine Hydrochlorida became available in the 1970s. It is currently sold as two brand names and one generic form. Because it is an older drug, no new efficacy trials have been recorded. In the early 90s, the drug was linked with fenfluramine. This ‘partnership’ did not last very long before major health problems, such as primary pulmonary hypertension, began popping up.

Adapex is generally prescribed to be taken one hour before a meal for a period f 8 to 12 weeks. It works as an appetite suppressant and is often something of a stimulant so it should not be taken late at night because that can result in sleeplessness.

The side effects of Adapex are blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, irritability, sleeplessness, and upset stomach or constipation. If chest pains, a pounding heart, nervousness, and difficult breathing are encountered, contact a doctor as this could be indicative of other problems. If a side effect not listed in the information included with the medication is experienced, contacting a doctor is extremely important.

If a person has high blood pressure to begin, it is best not to take Adapex as it has been known to increase blood pressure.
